Sustainability
Our Mission
We know exactly where our products come from and – just as important – where they are going. We use quality lumber to make our boxes, crates and pallets – none of which is wasted. Our products are not only exceptionally strong, economical, durable, and safe but they also represent a sustainable choice, a carbon-conscious use of renewable natural materials. Our environmentally friendly practices make sense, not only for the health of the planet, but also for our vibrant and growing business.
This is the spirit that drives us to use 100% of the ‘waste’ that’s created during the building process, to explore other uses for the wood that remains. Some of the creative secondary uses for wood that was once considered to be waste include:
- Pallet repair and recycling services: As part of our complete service commitment, we try to repair pallets for reuse when possible. This commitment to reusing specific pieces of second-use lumber to repair high-quality pallets is an important part of our ongoing business and represents our consistent efforts toward both sustainability and cost effectiveness.
- Mulch: When pallets cannot be reused or broken down to make smaller remanufactured pallets, we grind them into wood fiber needed for our mulch products. Commonly used in fine landscaping, our mulch is both aesthetically pleasing and beneficial for the environment.
- Sawdust: As something that was overlooked for years and seen as not having any value, sawdust is finding all kinds of applications as we continue toward using every inch of our lumber. Sawdust has been used in innovative solutions for animal bedding, as part of a variety of fuel options and as raw material for other products. Utilizing the maximum amount of our raw materials reflects our environmental commitment and contributes to savings that we can pass along to our customers.
We purchase our lumber from responsible sources that use sustainable harvest principles, with certification that involves independent third party assessment to ensure that they are operating in accordance with environmental best practices. When trees are felled for commercial use, they are replaced with seedlings that steadily grow into the forests of tomorrow, contributing to the long-term health of the natural environment.
